Nothing Redefines the Mid-Range: Phone (4a), (4a) Pro, and Headphone (a) Unveiled
Carl Pei and his team are once again attempting to prove that the mid-range smartphone market doesn’t have to be dull. Excitement is brewing, all thanks to Nothing’s London launch event. The spotlight was on the Nothing Phone (4a), the more powerful Phone (4a) Pro, and a new addition to the audio world: the Nothing Headphone (a).
Introducing the Nothing Phone (4a)
During the London event, Nothing finally showcased its latest mid-range devices. On March 5, 2026, we witnessed the premiere of the Nothing Phone (4a), Phone (4a) Pro, and new wireless headphones. Naturally, the company focused on the series that generates its highest sales, and the Phone (4a) is designed to lead that charge.
Before its official launch, we had a sneak peek at the Phone (4a) during the MWC trade show in Barcelona, where locked-away prototypes sparked considerable curiosity. Now, we finally have the opportunity to delve into every detail of its construction and learn about features that were previously only hinted at.
Iconic Design – Unmistakably Nothing
Nothing has refreshed its iconic design while retaining its core uniqueness. The standout feature remains the revamped Glyph Interface, complemented by a new range of vibrant colors. The Phone (4a) is available in striking pink, classic white, sleek black, and a calming blue.
The device features three cameras housed within a pill-shaped aluminum module at the top of the phone’s rear. The transparent, glass back of the Nothing Phone (4a) proudly displays the battery structure and the new Glyph Bar, which now consists of 63 mini-LEDs arranged in 7 squares.
- The new Glyph Bar is notably 40% brighter than previous versions, reaching an impressive peak brightness of up to 3500 nits.
- A familiar element, the red recording indicator light, has been carried over directly from the flagship Phone (3).
The innovations don’t stop with the aesthetic. The smartphone boasts an IP64 certification, allowing it to be submerged in water up to 25 cm (approximately 10 inches) for a maximum of 20 minutes. Its resistance to bending has also been increased, and the screen is protected by enhanced Gorilla Glass 7i, offering superior defense against scratches and drops.
Enhanced Display, Superior Cameras
The Nothing Phone (4a) features a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of up to 1.5K (440 ppi). This screen is larger than its predecessor, with thinner bezels that allow it to occupy a significant 91.3% of the front panel. LTPS technology ensures a dynamic refresh rate of up to 120 Hz, with typical brightness reaching 1600 nits and a peak brightness of an astounding 4500 nits.
A new camera system further distinguishes the Nothing Phone (4a). The smartphone is equipped with:
- A 50 Mpx wide-angle camera featuring a Samsung GN9 sensor (1/1.57” diagonal) and Optical Image Stabilization (OIS).
- A Sony ultra-wide-angle sensor offering a 119.5° field of view.
- A standout periscope telephoto lens that enables 3.5x optical zoom, 7x lossless zoom, and an incredible 70x digital zoom.
For videographers, the Phone (4a) records 4K video at 30 frames per second and slow-motion video in Full HD at 120 frames per second.
The Latest Iteration of Nothing OS
Nothing OS 4.1, built upon Android 16, represents a powerful evolution in software. The system responds instantly, even under heavy load, and new personalization options allow users to perfectly tailor the interface to their needs. These include depth effects on the lock screen and scalable components.
At the heart of the system is the Essential ecosystem, which includes a physical button (now on the left edge) for instant actions and the intelligent Essential Space. Innovative features like Live Updates on the Glyph Bar and the Breathing Break widget, designed to help users regain calm during a busy day, complete the experience.
Performance and Battery Life
The Phone (4a) is powered by the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 processor. It offers internal storage options of 128 GB or 256 GB (UFS 3.1) and 8 GB or 12 GB of LPDDR4X RAM. Thanks to RAM Booster technology, the RAM can be expanded up to an impressive 20 GB.
Furthermore, the phone features the largest battery in the entire (a) series. The 5080 mAh cell is designed to provide up to 17 hours of combined usage. The manufacturer also promises that the battery will maintain 90% of its maximum capacity after 1200 charging cycles. The device supports wired charging up to 50W, capable of charging the phone to 60% in just 30 minutes.
What Makes the Pro Better?
The Nothing Phone (4a) Pro is set to deliver robust performance within the upper mid-range segment. It is also powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 4, with memory configurations starting from 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. The Pro model will be available in more classic, “professional” variants, with the manufacturer opting for silver and black casings, in addition to a pink option. Notably, the Phone (4a) Pro features an aluminum body, moving away from the transparent glass design.
The Phone (4a) Pro also inherits the more advanced Glyph Matrix (familiar from Nothing’s flagship models), which offers more light points and richer notification animations. It boasts a slightly larger screen with a higher refresh rate of 144 Hz, promising even smoother animations and responsiveness within Nothing OS 4.1.
Nothing states that they have completely redesigned the phone, calling it the thinnest Nothing phone to date. The device also carries an IP65 rating for water and dust resistance, offering enhanced durability compared to its standard counterpart.
Nothing Headphone (a): For the Young and Stylish
With its new headphones, the Nothing Headphone (a), the manufacturer once again pushes the boundaries of functional design. The company has targeted a younger, fashion-conscious demographic, combining characteristic aesthetics with less conventional colors like pink and yellow in this new accessory. These are not just audio devices – they are a style statement.
Design meets durability: the fiberglass-reinforced nylon arms and steel hinges (manufactured using metal injection molding) ensure long-lasting resilience. For fans of traditional solutions, a 3.5 mm jack and a USB-C cable are included, providing lossless wired listening.
At the heart of the headphones are 40-millimeter titanium-coated drivers, engineered to deliver deep bass and crystal-clear highs (up to 110 dB). Thanks to LDAC technology, the Headphone (a) offers wireless Hi-Res audio (24-bit/96 kHz), and the AI-powered Dynamic Bass Enhancement system amplifies low frequencies in real-time without distortion.
The Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) system utilizes two types of microphones and artificial intelligence, offering three levels of isolation from ambient sound. If you wish to hear what’s happening around you, a single click activates transparency mode to let external sounds in. For controls, the Headphone (a) relies on haptics and mechanical buttons.
Call quality is ensured by Clear Voice technology, trained on over 28 million acoustic scenarios. Three microphones precisely capture the user’s voice, eliminating echo and ambient noise.
Let’s not forget the Nothing X application, which unlocks full personalization. Users can utilize an 8-band equalizer (EQ) or download sound profiles created by the Nothing community and professional artists. If you happen to misplace your headphones, the location function will help you find their last connected spot. Additionally, Nothing Phone users are treated to exclusive extras, such as voice control for ChatGPT directly through the headphones.
