In terms of build quality, it’s hard to find fault. The control dial is smooth and exceptionally satisfying to touch, the display is clear, and the hinge mechanism allows for precise aiming of the airflow at various angles.

It performed best when I was on the move – during walks, at the playground with children, etc. However, I couldn’t use it when my hands were occupied. This is where a clip, allowing me to attach the device to a backpack strap or purse, would have been incredibly useful.
At home or in an office (in rooms without air conditioning), the Shark ChillPill is outperformed by typical desktop fans. It’s simply too small to be the sole source of cooling (or air movement) in a larger room. What’s appealing, however, is how easily it can be positioned at a desired angle on a desk, and it certainly draws attention from those around you.
A potential issue is the noise level. Depending on the mode, the ChillPill generates approximately 48 to as much as 74–78 dB. Lower settings are relatively quiet, but higher speeds are noticeably loud. While working at a computer or watching TV, I rarely exceeded speeds 1–4. To truly feel a strong breeze, you need to increase the speed to 7–10, at the cost of significantly higher noise. This sound can be bothersome, especially in shared spaces.
The InstaChill Cooling Plate
This is arguably the most intriguing component of the ChillPill and a feature that offers genuinely rapid cooling. It’s a metal plate integrated into the tip, designed to lower skin temperature by up to 9°C (16°F) in just a few seconds. In practice, I could take the ChillPill out for an entire day, using it as needed. What’s more, charging isn’t an issue thanks to the USB-C port – any standard cable or power bank will do.
However, charging does take some time – about 3.5 hours. It’s best to charge the gadget overnight.
