The Dreame G12 Dual enters the market with a bold promise: a single device capable of transforming into an electric mop, a classic upright vacuum, a handheld vacuum, a dust and pet hair collector, and even a car cleaning tool. This sounds like a significant value proposition. But does real-world performance live up to these ambitious claims? What compromises might be inherent in a 5-in-1 design? This comprehensive review delves into the Dreame G12 Dual to answer these questions.
The Dreame G12 Dual was released in early August, entering the wet & dry vacuum segment where the brand had already established a strong presence with its H-series models. At the heart of its design is a single detachable motor module with a battery, which can be transferred between the main body of the mopping unit and the handle of the classic upright vacuum cleaner. This innovative approach allows the device to vacuum and mop simultaneously in a single pass. Interchangeable attachments further extend its utility, enabling it to clean upholstery and reach difficult-to-access or delicate surfaces.
This is how the “5-in-1” declaration should be understood: as a set of applications, not five independent machines that the Dreame G12 Dual replaces. Once the semantic burden is shed, the focus can shift to the two primary functionalities of the G12 Dual – its mopping and vacuuming capabilities.

Unboxing and Accessories
The Dreame G12 Dual arrives in a generously sized package, accommodating two main bodies, a charging base, and a variety of additional accessories.
The set includes the Wet&Dry body and a second handle to convert the device into a classic upright vacuum. Also included are:
- A versatile, illuminated Multi-Surface Brush for hard floors and low-pile carpets.
- A motorized mini-brush for upholstered furniture and pet hair.
- A multi-purpose tool (crevice nozzle with an extendable soft brush).
- An extension wand.
- A charging base.
- An accessory holder.
- A cleaning brush.
These accessories significantly enhance the versatility of the set. The illuminated brush helps reveal hidden dust near furniture, the mini motorized brush is ideal for sofas and mattresses, and the crevice tool is perfect for tight spaces where a wider head cannot reach. This thoughtful collection of accessories is well-suited for common household cleaning tasks.
Modular Design and Operation
The G12 Dual is not merely an upright vacuum with an attached wet mop pad; it’s a system built around a shared power unit. This unit can be inserted into the configuration for simultaneous vacuuming and mopping of hard floors, or it can be transferred to the classic upright vacuum body. The latter works seamlessly with the main power brush, motorized mini-brush, and attachments designed for smaller areas.
In its wet mode, the device can effectively pick up debris and wash floors in a single pass. When it’s time to vacuum carpets, mattresses, shelves, or even the interior of your car, you can quickly switch to the dry module. However, this transition isn’t instantaneous with just a button press; the main unit needs to be physically transferred between the two bodies.
The core of the entire system is the module that can be moved between the different bodies.
The main unit features a small screen that displays the current operating mode. When the module is placed in the mopping unit’s body and docked on its base, it shows the charging status. Other information appears when the roller cleaning mode is activated.
When using the vacuum in its upright or handheld configuration, buttons located below the screen are utilized. One functions as the power switch, while the other allows you to switch to a higher power setting. When the module is inserted into the electric mop body, you gain more buttons (those on the handle) and additional operating modes.
Overall, the design is highly intuitive and easy to operate. There aren’t many buttons, and their functions are clear. The interface offers easily interpretable functions and icons. It has been simplified to the extent that it doesn’t even display the battery charge level as a percentage.
Upright and Handheld Vacuum Mode
By attaching the motor module to its dedicated body, the G12 Dual transforms into a classic upright vacuum cleaner, complete with a telescopic tube and an LED-illuminated Multi-Surface Brush. This brush is specifically designed for thorough cleaning of hard floors and low-pile carpets. From an ergonomic standpoint, there are no complaints. The device features a comfortable grip, is easy to maneuver, and button access is straightforward.
However, those familiar with previous Dreame upright vacuums will quickly notice a noticeable reduction in power with the G12 Dual. The lowest mode is practically ineffective, the medium setting suffices for hard floors, and the highest power is almost essential for vacuuming carpets (especially in homes with pets).
Another point to note is that the G12 Dual, in its upright vacuum mode, lacks an automatic power adjustment feature. This means you must manually increase power when encountering larger accumulations of dirt and decrease it where less suction is sufficient.
On the positive side, the power brush features illumination from four white LEDs. This immediately highlights whether a particular floor area has been thoroughly vacuumed. The handy, motorized mini-brush is also highly effective at picking up pet hair from upholstery like armchairs or sofas.
A crevice tool with a soft dusting brush is also included, which proved useful for tasks such as cleaning keyboards. A practical drawback, however, is the absence of a flexible hose, which would make maneuvering the crevice tool in tight corners much easier. Given that Dreame lists car cleaning as one of the G12 Dual’s applications, this omission makes the task considerably more challenging.
Let’s move on to practical tests, which involved cleaning deliberately scattered items on hard floors (kitchen tiles) and carpets. The mixture consisted of powdered sugar, oat flakes, and flax seeds.
The Dreame G12 Dual successfully cleaned both surfaces (using medium power) in just a single pass, despite these not being typical household spills.
Over the past month, using this device almost daily, I frequently cleaned scattered cat litter, soil from plants, and tracked-in sand in the hallway. The G12 Dual handled all these tasks without any issues.
However, there’s a caveat. Dreame boasts that an integrated comb continuously separates hair from the roller and directs it straight into the dustbin, significantly reducing tangling around the brush. Unfortunately, this system doesn’t seem to work perfectly, as I frequently found a considerable amount of hair tangled on the roller.
Wet Cleaning Effectiveness
Transferring the module to the electric mop body transforms the Dreame G12 Dual’s functionality, turning it into a tool for regular hard floor cleaning suitable for floors, marble, tiles, and other hard surfaces. The entire unit is well-balanced and maneuverable, with the water tank positioned near the base, lowering the device’s center of gravity. This design makes the vacuum easy to operate without excessive effort.
The handle in this mode has a different layout, featuring its own set of buttons. This is because the main module is not located within the handle; it’s moved to the central part of the body. The information and modes displayed on the screen also change. At the back of the vacuum, there’s a button to toggle voice commands and a rotary wheel that allows the vacuum to move horizontally.
Changing the module also introduces new operating modes. An intelligent mode detects the intensity of dirt and automatically adjusts cleaning performance. Other options include: Turbo, Eco, and Liquid collection.
A particularly noteworthy feature of the mopping module is its ability to lay flat. In this horizontal position, the device stands at just 9.85 cm (approximately 3.88 inches) tall. This low profile genuinely allowed it to clean under furniture that proved problematic for other cleaning devices.
However, there’s a minor restriction: when cleaning in the flat position, the permissible amount of dirty water in the tank decreases from 500 ml to 300 ml. This is a safety measure to prevent spills. The clean water tank, conversely, has a generous capacity of 780 ml, which is a definite advantage for this device.
How did all this perform in practice? First, I tested how the roller handled wet and partially dried spills, specifically cola, ketchup, and cream stains. This was not a difficult task for the G12 Dual. After the first pass, the spills were completely picked up, leaving no streaks, puddles, or residue in the tile grout.
And how did the device fare with dry dirt on tiles? Not a trace was left behind.
For the G12 Dual, situations where dry dirt and wet stains coexist are not a problem. It can be used to simultaneously vacuum and mop surfaces, offering significant time savings. For a comparison of other multi-functional devices, you might want to look at our Dyson Pencilwash Electric Mop Review, which offers a different approach to wet cleaning.
It’s worth noting that the manufacturer has implemented the TangleCut system in the mopping module. This system uses a flexible scraper that constantly presses against the roller, separating tangled hair. The hair is then cut by blades made from Swiss PPA material. The goal is to minimize hair wrapping around the roller. Unlike the solution in the vacuum module’s brush, this system genuinely works effectively here.
Self-Cleaning and Docking Station
While cleaning floors might be faster than using a vacuum and mop separately, wet cleaning inevitably involves managing the dirty water system. After placing the mopping unit back in its station, it’s advisable to initiate the roller cleaning cycle. According to Dreame, the system uses 95°C (203°F) water and then dries the roller with hot air for five or thirty minutes. Indeed, after this process, the roller is clean and dry – even after tackling tough stains like ketchup and cream.
I must admit, in this aspect, the Dreame G12 Dual pleasantly surprised me. Especially when compared to models like the Dreame Z30 AquaCycle – a device with similar functionality but significantly more expensive, where hygiene-related issues were much less effectively addressed. However, a limitation arises elsewhere. The “self-cleaning” does not encompass the entire vacuum. You still need to dispose of the dirty liquid and collected debris, clean the tank, and regularly check components where hair and sediment might accumulate. Sometimes, cleaning the dirty water tank can be quite time-consuming, especially when hair gets wrapped around certain parts.
Regarding the upright vacuum module, I find the number of steps required to empty the dustbin inconvenient. First, you have to detach it from the handle, and only then can you disassemble the tank components to dispose of the waste. Other models demonstrate that this process can be much quicker and easier, without getting your hands dirty.
Finally, it’s important to discuss the battery. The system is powered by a battery composed of six 4000 mAh cells, operating at 21.6 V. The manufacturer claims up to 60 minutes of operation in mopping mode and 65 minutes in standard vacuuming mode, but these figures – typical for most cordless vacuums on the market – apply to lower power settings. In practice, the device provides over half an hour of intensive cleaning, which should be sufficient for cleaning floors in a typical household.

However, in practice, the device can often be purchased for significantly less – for example, around 1609 units on the official Dreame website, or even as low as 1599 units at popular electronics retailers. This represents a good value for a device that can both vacuum and mop floors, easily converts to a handheld model, and is portable enough for car cleaning.
The Dreame G12 Dual may not be the absolute best upright vacuum or the best electric mop in its price range. Nevertheless, it stands out competitively within the wet&dry cleaner category thanks to its modular design, flexibility, and ability to clean under low furniture. For most homes, it will prove to be a perfectly sufficient and practical cleaning tool for daily use.
Conclusion and Our Opinion
Dreame has a truly compelling vision for the G12 Dual. The transferable module between bodies is an elegant solution that significantly enhances the versatility of the entire set. This provides a reasonably performing vacuum cleaner (handheld or upright) or an electric mop, although claiming one device replaces five others might be an overstatement. There are also a few areas that could benefit from improvement if Dreame decides to release a successor.
I tested the Dreame G12 Dual over the past month and particularly appreciated its ergonomic design and the convenience of using both its configurations. I liked the design that genuinely allows cleaning under furniture, the effective removal of even dried stains, and the convenient, automatic self-cleaning feature in the docking station. The weaker aspect, however, is the performance of the classic upright vacuum mode, which offers noticeably less power than Dreame’s models specifically dedicated to vacuuming. Additionally, there’s the absence of an automatic mode during vacuuming and a flexible hose, which would significantly increase the device’s versatility.
The mopping module is undoubtedly its stronger suit. Its ability to transform into an upright or handheld vacuum adds considerable utility to the purchase, but it might not always provide complete comfort during operation. In summary, the Dreame G12 Dual represents a well-thought-out set for basic household chores. While there are certain compromises, if you can acquire it at a promotional price and genuinely intend to regularly use both configurations, it could be a worthwhile investment.
