Apollo 10 ½: A Space Age Chidhood

Apollo 10: A Space Age Chidhood tells the story of the first moon landing in the summer of 1969 from two intertwined perspectives – an astronaut and mission control at a triumphant moment, and through the eyes of a child growing up in Houston, Texas who has his own intergalactic dreams.

Linklater’s film is also to draw inspiration from the director’s very life and show the image of growing up in the 1960s in the USA. Being at the same time a history close to the Earth and social matters as well as a broader, cosmic perspective.

After years of working on Apollo 10: A Space Age Chidhood, I think everyone is excited about the possibility of taking people on these intertwining journeys – one journey by the young astronaut to the moon and another which goes hand in hand with him and his family in a suburb near NASA. I wanted it to be many things at once: re-enactment, fantasy and memory, and making a large part of the movie during these dark and disturbing last two years only sharpened our focus on what was our goal in trying to share this story, namely hope, optimism , the spirit of community and creativity of the time.

Richard Linklater said about the project

Richard Linklater fans surely know that this creator has quite a lot of achievements in the field of animated films.

He gave the world excellent and original works such as “Conscious Life” and “Through the Dark Mirror” based on the books by Philip K. Dick. These were animations based on the rotoscopic technique, which transferred the actors’ creations straight from the real plan to the animated sphere. They also took up interesting, philosophical topics. Probably this time Linklater prepared a feast not only visual.

Apollo 10 ½: A Space Age Chidhood boasts a cast led by Milo Coy , Lee Eddy , Bill Wise and Natalie L’Amoureaux . In addition to them, Josh Wiggins , Sam Chipman , Jessica Brynne Cohen and Danielle Guilbot also appear .

Apollo 10: A Space Age Chidhood will hit Netflix on April 1, 2022 after its premiere at the SXSW Festival.
