RoboVac X8 Hybrid Review – Twin Turbine Power

RoboVac X8 Hybrid Review - Twin Turbine Power

The RoboVac X8 Hybrid is one of the latest proposals from the Eufy (Anker Technologies) brand. It has a quite elegant look (its housing is supposed to resemble carbon fiber), vacuums and mops, all with the enormous power (4000 Pa) of cooperating turbines. He has been cleaning my apartment for several weeks – what is his impression, how is he doing on a daily basis and compared to the competition? You will find the answers to these questions in the review below.

Device specification

The distinguishing feature of the vacuum cleaner is the double turbine technology, thanks to which the device provides higher suction power than the competition. Here, each engine delivers 2,000 Pa, or 4,000 Pa in total. Its suction power can be adjusted in 4 levels. There is also a BoostIQ function, which automatically provides more suction when the vacuum cleaner is on the carpet. And this is how the rest of the specification looks like:

  • Maximum suction power: 4000 Pa (2 x 2000 Pa)
  • Connectivity: Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz)
  • Navigation system: laser SLAM with iPath technology
  • Dust container capacity: 400 ml
  • Water tank capacity: 250 ml
  • Battery: 5200 mAh
  • Working time: up to 180 minutes
  • Noise: up to 60 dB
  • Other: mopping function, BoostIQ technology, multiple map storage, negotiating obstacles up to 18mm
  • Dimensions: 345 x 345 x 97.2 mm
  • Weight: 3.5 kg
The RoboVac X8 Hybrid vacuum cleaner by Eufy is a product of Anker , which also includes brands such as Soundcore and Nebula.

Kit contents

The vacuum cleaner comes in a large box, which also includes a number of additional accessories: a powerful paper manual, a mop with spare disposable cloths, a charging station, a cable with an adapter, and a spare brush and a HEPA filter for the dust container . There are even cable ties here to adequately secure the space in which the robot will move.

The devil is in the details, and here, in addition to a nice set of accessories, it’s worth paying attention to the small docking station that even has space to hide the excess power cable. The manufacturer added a large, transparent mat to be attached to the floor where the robot is docked. This is to protect the floor from a wet mop when Eufy returns to base after cleaning.

Construction of a vacuum cleaner

Manufacturers of robotic vacuum cleaners are usually not crazy about the visuals – after all, a running wheel with brushes does not have to be beautiful. Usually we have white, black or gray covers or combinations of both. And although in practice the appearance is much less important than the efficiency of operation, the Eufy provided a bit more impressions for the eye – the housing on the top resembles carbon fiber and has a subtle pattern.

There was also the manufacturer’s logo, color details, and the glossy surface finish attracts dust. There is also an island with iPath laser navigation, a Wi-Fi LED and three buttons (docking, start / stop and spot cleaning) with illuminated markings. At the front, the RoboVac X8 Hybrid has a large bumper that will prevent any damage to the furniture.

After turning the device, you can see a single side brush (mounted on a screw), a main roller brush (a combination of rubber and bristles), two large rubber wheels and one rotating support wheel.

In addition, you can see a dust container with a capacity of 400 ml. Along with it, a small brush is installed here, thanks to which the filters and the container can be cleaned more effectively. Eufy boasts of something called “UltraPack Dust-Compression Technology”. This technology is to increase the use of the container, i.e. to better compress the collected dust and other dirt so that it does not spread around the room when the container is emptied. And it actually works, and the compressed dirt means that you can empty the container less often. You just have to be careful when removing the container – there is no flap at the inlet here, so garbage can spill out.

Application and support

Getting the Eufy RoboVac X8 Hybrid up and running is not difficult. Just download Eufy Home, create an account and connect the robot to your home network. Then let the equipment go for the first vacuuming, during which the room will be mapped. When drawing a map in the application, you can see the route and the current location of the vacuum cleaner and the charging station on an ongoing basis.

The application allows you to choose automatic cleaning, clean selected rooms, zones or places (point cleaning). Supports restricted zones, virtual barriers and no mopping zones. Eufy Home The application also supports many maps, which is useful in two-story houses – but I must add that this option is not enabled by default. You have to go to the settings and choose to save multiple maps. When the robot is moved to another floor, it quickly recognizes the layout and loads the appropriate map after starting the vacuuming process.

There are four levels of suction power and the BoostIQ option, which automatically increases the suction power depending on the type of floor. The reaction time is really good – the vacuum cleaner only needs 1.5 seconds to change the suction power.

What the manufacturer must definitely work on is mapping, and more specifically the division into rooms. At Eufy Home, it definitely looks bad and does not correspond to the real boundaries between the rooms. The map allows editing – splitting and merging which can improve the situation, but drawing the borders manually is quite frustrating. Competition does it much better. I also don’t like the fact that the battery status is displayed graphically only, with no percentages.

Vacuuming – how is the RoboVac X8 Hybrid doing?

The robot vacuums effectively, but not completely. First, he marks out the area to be cleaned, and then methodically, with circular movements, he vacuums the space. Nevertheless, there were places that were clearly missed. He is better at dealing with hair and hair than with heavier, harder elements (especially on a floor without a carpet) – it happened that instead of dragging them in, the vacuum cleaner would throw them around. Probably the task is not facilitated by the presence of only one side brush – with two it would be better for collecting dirt in harder-to-reach places.

Nevertheless, the floors in my apartment, bearing traces of the presence of cats and children – in the form of litter, hair, food scraps, Lego blocks, etc., were vacuumed quickly and thoroughly. What’s more, it effectively avoids obstacles – it does not mindlessly hit furniture and does not get tangled in cables. The vacuum cleaner is good at detecting furniture, stairs and other obstacles with 4 sensors and does not fall off the edge.

I will just add that due to the Eufy RoboVac X8 Hybrid’s laser navigation turret, it is not able to drive up to all the furniture – vacuum cleaners with alternative navigation systems, completely flat, do not have this problem.

The working time is sufficient to clean most of the average apartment – although I did not reach the 3-hour working time declared by the manufacturer, it certainly exceeded two hours. This should be enough even for a 100-meter space. Charging itself takes about 4-5 hours.

RoboVac X8 Hybrid Review - noise is kept in check

The manufacturer declares the volume at the level of 60 dB, in practice, with the most powerful mode of operation, the vacuum cleaner exceeded 70 dB. But still, with two turbines you can say that the noise is kept in check.

Mopping – poor in so many ways

While I was satisfied with the quality and effectiveness of vacuuming, the mopping failed me. Not even in terms of the lack of pressure, because here most vacuum cleaners work the same, but due to the fact that it cannot be controlled via the application.

I am not able to change the strength of the hydration (which is definitely too weak), there is no automatic carpet detection, so the vacuum cleaner will mop panels, tiles and carpets as well. You have to manually designate the zones in the application that the RoboVac X8 Hybrid will ignore. Anyway, in Eufy Home there is no tab at all related to the mop – probably the only option is to set simultaneous vacuuming and moping and to designate zones without moping.

What’s more, the crescent-shaped water tank is quite inconspicuous – it has 250 ml. However, the process itself is trivial – just fill it and place it from the bottom of the robot, under the dustbin. The RoboVac X8 Hybrid comes with a microfiber cleaning pad (reusable) and five disposable cloths. They, previously moistened and applied to the tank, are responsible for mopping. However, its effectiveness is poor – some dirt will appear on the cloth (basically only in its central part), but the Eufy RoboVac X8 Hybrid gives off far too little water and the whole process does not bring the expected results.

RoboVac X8 Hybrid Review - Advantages and disadvantages

Summary

The Eufy RoboVac X8 Hybrid is an effective device that will save you time spent cleaning. Which does not change the fact that I expected a little more from a vacuum cleaner of this price, especially since at this price you can already buy models with an automatic emptying tank.

In the Eufy RoboVac X8 Hybrid, vacuuming did not disappoint me, on the contrary, but some shortcomings in the application and mopping efficiency do not speak in favor of the reviewed vacuum cleaner. Especially that there are interesting alternatives on the market – if you care about mopping, for example, then you can look at the Roborock S7 model with sonic floor cleaning and lifting the mop over the carpet.
