[Review] Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra – a robot I love

Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra review

Cleaning robots is not the newest idea anymore, but it definitely deserves to be called one of the fastest growing. With each new equipment I test, I get something new that will automate the cleaning process even more. This time, the base is a complete novelty, thanks to which we not only do not have to manually empty the dust container, but also manually wash the mop and take care of the water container. When I heard about this idea, I immediately thought that the Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra would be the perfect robot. Is it really so?

Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra review in three sentences

The Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra is an autonomous vacuum cleaner that has a chance to become the best equipment of its kind. High suction power, a very well-functioning mopping pad and well-groomed technologies related to device sensors make cleaning the floor quick and effective. If we add a self-emptying and complementary base to it, we get virtually maintenance-free equipment that will take the vacuuming and mopping of the floor off our shoulders forever.

Advantages and disadvantages

Benefits

  • High suction power
  • Very effective mopping
  • ReactiveAI technology
  • Self-draining and complementary base

Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra kit, technical specification and price

I started with the base, and actually the new Roborock can be purchased separately (without the Ultra note), with the usual charging base intended for it. Then the set is more modest and not so impressive in size, but we still get everything we need, i.e. a vacuum cleaner and a mopping pad with a cloth. We will also receive two additional dust bags.

The price is as impressive as the size of the equipment. The vacuum cleaner itself will cost $1,399.99 in the official store.

No wonder that under the price in Roborock’s store there is an option to spread the payment into installments.

What are the parameters of the equipment we receive?

  • Suction power up to 5100Pa
  • LiDAR navigation, ReactiveAI 2.0 system
  • HEPA filter E11
  • containers:
  • for dust 470ml
  • for water 200ml
  • carpet detection, mopping pad lifting option
  • 5200mAh battery
  • dimensions 34.5 cm x 10 cm

The specification clearly shows that there is no other cleaning device that promises to be so promising on the market. However, parameters are only data, and we will take a better look at how they translate into the operation of the device.

Construction and build quality

The vacuum cleaner seems to be very solidly constructed. Its round, plastic housing is black and completely matt, which makes the robot look better, but only when it is clean. Due to its high maintenance-free nature, I rarely approached it, which meant it quickly began to look dusty than it actually was.

When it is clean, it looks more elegant and quite futuristic. This is due to the red inserts on the back and the LED strip that communicates information. This one is not only colorful but also moves which emphasizes the dynamic nature of the device.

In addition to the already well-known, slightly protruding and decorated with the LiDARA logo, we should pay attention to the two sensors on the front, which are used for ReacitveAI. The robot’s cover is opened, we can easily see what is hidden inside and the replaceable parts seem easy to disassemble, clean and replace.

The elements of the brushes are entirely rubber, which increases their durability and efficiency. The main turbo brush is floating, so it should collect all crumbs well, thanks to its good adherence to any surface.

Base, an ultra-convenient solution

Although the extensive base in this robot is only an option, I cannot imagine using it without it. The Empty Wash Fill Dock does exactly what it says. Firstly, it empties the dust container, secondly – it washes the mopping pad, and thirdly, it refills the water in the robot itself. The former, now a fairly common option, worked well, although there was always some dirt left in the robot’s dust collector.

Washing the mop, in turn, is a kind of novelty. The first washing of the cloth takes place before mopping, and each subsequent one can be programmed after a designated time or room at home. After cleaning, the mop will clean again and be ready to run again.

We, in turn, can, but do not have to, empty the dirty water tank, which, contrary to appearances, is quite spacious. This is an excellent solution, thanks to which the cleaning robot finally becomes a device that can be configured and almost forgotten, because it will take care of itself.

Activities such as replacing the dust bag or refilling the water container and washing the cloth will still be ours, but the use of the station will significantly reduce the frequency of our interventions in the robot’s work. In addition, the base will remind us about some of such activities thanks to notifications from the application and the information LED on the base, which will turn red.

Apart from the price, the extensive charging station has only two disadvantages – it is large and you will have to find a lot of space for it (41.5 cm wide, 42 cm high). In addition, the Empty Wash Fill Dock is mechanically complex and has many moving parts, which means a lot of components that can break.

Vacuuming and mopping

Vacuuming works great regardless of the power selected or the surface on which the robot is moving. The Roborock S7 MaxV has enough power to pull up all the dirt in my apartment. With the MAX + vacuuming mode, the robot can achieve a suction power of up to 5100Pa, but using this function was not necessary for me. For testing, I used the strongest mode several times and then you have to prepare for a much higher noise level, but it also means a much shorter working time of Roborock.

Mopping

Mopping by the Roborock S7 MaxV will certainly not disappoint anyone. Like the Roborock S7 , it has a really well-implemented floor cleaning system, despite the lack of the so-called movement. “Herringbone”.

We owe it to the mopping pad with a special vibrating structure. It moves up to 3,000 times a minute and not only wipes the floor, but also cleans it effectively.

In addition, we can thicken the route covered by the vacuum cleaner by selecting a special mode in the application called “deep”. By driving the same place several times, the robot manages to wipe away even dried-on stains and not to miss any part of the floor. In addition to vibrations, the mop cover can be lowered and raised, thanks to which it distributes the pressure well on the cleaned surface.

If you are worried that the robot could leave streaks parallel to each other, I must reassure you. I have not noticed anything like that, and if you want to be sure that the floor will look perfectly smooth even when looking against the light, you can increase the number of passes to 2, and then the Roborock S7 MaxV will make the second pass perpendicular to the previous one, mapping a grid.

Mapping the route and avoiding obstacles

The effectiveness of vacuuming and mopping does not only depend on mechanical factors. The Roborock S7 MaxV sees very well where it is going, is well versed in space and always returns to the charging station without any problems. In addition to LIDAR, thanks to which the robot will map our apartment, we have two additional sensors from the front – an RGB camera and a 3D scanner.

It is thanks to them and the solution that Roborock calls ReactiveAI 2.0 that the device detects objects on the floor and plans the journey accordingly. If it recognizes a potential obstacle that could prevent it from passing, it will try to avoid it. Depending on the type of obstacle, the conservative behavior of its operation will be different, and so, in the case of recognizing the cables, it will be much more careful than in the case of the ramp from the table. Importantly, the systems work not only in well-lit places,

The whole system works surprisingly well and only a few times has the robot dragged something with it. If you want, you can personalize the delicacy of the robot while riding up to obstacles in the application. If you always have the floor cleaned before cleaning, you don’t have to use it at all, but if you run fast cleaning sometimes without cleaning the floor first, this option will be your greatest ally.

App

To manage the robot, it will be necessary to download one of the two applications: Xiaomi Home or the Roborock app. The difference between the two speaks in favor of the manufacturer’s application, but the former is more universal if you have more home appliances than Xiaomi.

Only from the Roborock application we are able to see the map of the apartment in 3D, and we can voice (!) Connect to the robot and talk to the household members using the microphone and loudspeaker built into the device.

As if that was not enough, only in the Roborock application we can connect to the robot and see what its cameras are currently seeing on the phone. If you are concerned about the safety of this idea, I need to reassure you. Connecting to the robot is accompanied by repeated beeps revealing that someone managing the robot has connected to it.

Apart from this minor difference, both applications will be equally useful in using the robot. They both edit maps. show furniture recognized by the robot, make it possible to establish no-entry or mopping zones and to set the cleaning mode, including a separate setting for each room. We can also manage maps, plan trips, configure ReactiveAi settings, set up a child lock, do not disturb mode or enable full charging outside of peak hours.

The application will also be used to operate the base, e.g. setting the frequency and cleaning mode of the mop or setting the auto emptying. Personalization also includes how the robot will talk to us – we can choose its voice. If the vacuum cleaner will be used by us regularly, and its parts need cleaning or replacement,

Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra review – summary

It has been a long time since I met the equipment that charmed me so much, but still I am not sure if it is enough to convince you to spend $1,399.99 on the presented set.

If I could afford to spend such money on an autonomous vacuum cleaner, I would not hesitate for a moment. Currently, the Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra does not seem to have a competitor worthy of itself.
